Professinal Review:Frommer's Hawaii & Frommer's Kauai Travel Guide Books FINDS: Kauai Country Inn. Book this place! It's hard to believe that nestled in the rolling hills behind Kapaa, this old-fashioned country inn exists. Hosts Mike and Martina Hough, refugees from life in the fast lane (they used to run an international advertising agency in Los Angeles), have taken their considerable creative talents and produced a slice of paradise on two acres. Each of the four suites is uniquely decorated in Hawaiian Art Deco with a touch of humor, complete with hardwood floors, a kitchen or kitchenette, your own computer with high speed Internet connection, and lots of little amenities. Everything is top-drawer, from the furniture to the sub-zero refrigerator. The grounds are immaculate, and you can pick as much organic fruit as you want from the abundance of mango, guava, likely, starfruit, oranges and lemons.
Beatles fans take note: Mike has been collecting memorabilia for decades and has the only private Beatles Museum in the state (including a Mini Cooper S car owned by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, original paintings by John Lennon, and a host of books, records, movies, tapes, T-shirts, and other interesting and unusual rare items. Annie, the house golden retriever, personally greets each guest like her long-lost friend.

My wife and I stayed at Kauai Country Inn on our first visit to Kauai. We had come accross the Inn through a recommendation in Frommer's. We were pleasantly surprised how nice our stay was. We rented the Plumeria Suite, which we and some of the staff consider the best suite. It is spacious, beautifully decorated, has a jacuzzi bath tub and balcony, and includes lots of "toys" for the guests including an Apple computer to use with free internet and a special digital photo device, multiple movies and books to watch and read, and games to play such as chess, checkers, monopoly and on and on it goes. The staff is so nice and efficient and helpful. The simple continental breakfast of pastries, oatmeal and coffee is just right for the perfect home setting of the Kauai Country Inn. And what a Beatles "museum" they have to walk down memory lane, as Mike gives you a tour of a lifetime and tells you facts of the Beatles many never knew. Best of all, the price of the stay is outstanding considering all you get and free parking and free fruit to pick from the grounds. The location is a quiet country setting perfect to hear the sounds of mutliple birds, that is centrally located for easy access to each end of Kauai. As we moved to another island and are now staying in a high end resort, we miss our accommodations we had at Kauai Country Inn.
Nightly rates range from $149 to $179. Frommer's Travel Guide says:"Run to the phone and book this place!"
